( NUIPIC )

The course will provide Learners with formal training in command and control, communications and coordination elements used in the management of major emergencies.

Target Group

The course is designed for personnel who fill the position of Normally Unmanned Installations Person-in-Charge (NUIPIC) during visits to a remote facility that are a distance from the “Mother Installations”. The NUIPIC is to lead, facilitate and coordinate personnel working on Normally Unmanned Installations during these visits.

Aims & Objectives

To equip the NUIPIC with the basic knowledge, skills and techniques that are required to assume full responsibility for the facilitation and coordination of all activities on the normally unmanned installation including:

  1. Be accountable and hold individuals accountable for safety.
  2. Actively promote and ensure the quality and consistent use of safety tools e.g. hold a briefing upon arrival to the NUI, safe work practices, JSAs, TBTs and Stop Work.
  3. Promote high standards of safe behaviour, proactively identifying hazards and intervene on unsafe or potentially unsafe situations.
  4. Ensure that workplace concerns are heard and addressed.
  5. Enforce and ensure that work groups understand and follow all required safety rules and procedures – ensure that they are readily available.
  6. Actively promote and reinforce lifesaving actions – knowledge of ERPs, promote the importance of drills and exercises.
  7. Display visible leadership on the NUI and consistently engage with the team through interaction, questioning and regular site walk-arounds.
  8. Actively promote and support all safety initiatives.
  9. Conduct purposeful and effective briefs, Involve and challenge the work team in their knowledge, understanding of procedures and expectations.

Practical - Examination​

At the end of the course a minimum of two Appraisal Scenarios shall be run for each Learner.
